Vocational and Traditional Skill Transfer Program (2023-2024)

The aim of the project is to train selected community members (at least 50 persons) in identified vocational skills, so as to bring local economic revival through the service to be rendered by these skills. This is to ensure all the selected community members are trained in useful skills (traditional and vocations) which can bring economic revival to the communities on the mountain.

The implementation of the skill acquisition program started in January 2023. First, consultation was held with the local community to inquire into the skills they will find relevant, secondly, the availability of the skills in the nearby lowland areas were identified. Following ascertaining the availability of the vocational skills, the participants were selected and they proceed to their respective learning posts. Each of the vocations required a minimum of 7 months. The community members were also required to relocate to the nearby lowlands, as traveling daily will be practically impossible.

Following the graduation of the apprentices, a graduation ceremony was organized for them in Kofyar. The Graduation Ceremony in 2023 was a momentous occasion, bringing together the community, project coordinators, leaders, parents, and most importantly, the graduates who had completed rigorous vocational training programs. The event highlighted the positive impact of the broader project, and showcased the incredible progress made.

The importance of the Graduation Ceremony within the scope of this project cannot be overstated. It serves as a pivotal juncture in realizing the project's objectives, which are aimed at ushering in a new era of socio-economic vitality in this rural mountainous community.
