Olukoya Obafemi, PhD

Olukoya Obafemi earned a Master of Architecture from Cyprus International University. After his studies, he practiced professional architecture and construction, realizing multiple development projects both in Nigeria and Cyprus. In 2020, he obtained PhD in heritage conservation from the UNESCO chair in Heritage Studies at Brandenburg Technical University, Germany under the award of German Academic Exchange (DAAD). His doctoral thesis focused on the sustainability of cultural landscapes in the context of climate change impacts in the Mediterranean Europe.

During his doctoral program Olukoya assisted in teaching Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) in the World Heritage Program at the UNESCO Chair, and Sustainable construction in the Chair of Environment Resource Management at Brandenburg Technical University, Germany. His professional practice specializes in Heritage Impact Assessment and the development of conservation and management for cultural heritage sites through research and capacity building. He has worked on a number international heritage conservation projects in Germany, Cyprus, Tanzania, Malawi and Nigeria. He is a member of International Association of Impact Assessment (IAIA), member of ICOMOS Nigeria, member of DOCOMOMO International, Vernacular Architecture Forum (VAF), Association of Critical Heritage Studies, and the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism. He is a DAAD Alumni.

Olukoya Oluwaseun, M.Arch

Olukoya Oluwaseun is an advocate of the conservation/preservation of green spaces, land use planning / restoration together with sustainable urban transitions. She is a Master degree graduate in Architecture (MArch) as well as Bachelor degree in Architecture (BSc. Arch) from Cyprus International University, Cyprus and Covenant University, Nigeria respectively. She is presently working an architect at Nuckel Architectural firm in Hamburg. Additionally, she is a researcher with many published architectural papers and working towards more [publications / research works] on sustainable urban development, alternative building materials and viable construction methods.

World Heritage Specialist and Management Plan Expert

Max Chami, PhD

Maximilian Felix Chami, PhD is a Culture and World Heritage at the UNESCO National Commission of the United Republic of Tanzania. He has been responsible for the implementation of UNESCO’s national culture projects, advise the government in UNESCO-related issues concerning cultural heritage properties (i.e. Reactive Monitoring Missions) and strengthen the dialogue between the government and civil society. He completed his PhD in Heritage Studies at the Brandenburg University of Technology, Cottbus- Seftenberg in Germany (December 2019). Also, He has a BA in Tourism and Cultural Heritage from University of Dodoma (2012) and MA in Heritage Management from University of Dar es Salaam (2015), Tanzania respectively. Among his research interests are topics like Heritage Management and Planning, Conflict Management in Heritage Places, Public Archaeology, and Cultural Heritage Tourism.

World Heritage Specialist and Integrated Management Plan Specialists

Oris Malijani, PhD

Oris Malijani is the Cultural Heritage Specialist and DMM Geo-Archaeologist with vast experience both in public and private sector in the development, conservation and management of Malawi’s cultural and natural heritage. His practice specializes in development, planning and implementation of archaeological research projects, strategic management planning frameworks for heritage sites, conservation and management of cultural heritage sites, and capacity building on African heritage. He work directly with local communities and other stakeholders in development and implementation of cultural heritage projects. From 2009-2013, he worked as a Field Archaeologist for Malawi Earlier-Middle Stone Age Project (MEMSAP), a long-term collaborative Project researching on the origins of modern human in collaboration with Queensland University of Australia and DMM. Between 2013-2015, he was a Fundraising Strategy Advisor for Initiative for Heritage Conservancy in Greece, whereby he was responsible for identification of potential funding partners, writing funding project proposals, development and establishment of partnerships between African Heritage Organizations with Initiative for Heritage Conservancy, University of Kent and Athens University of Economics and Business. Among his research interests are topics like Heritage and Law, Cultural Landscapes, Heritage Management and Planning, Conflict Management in Heritage Places and Public Archaeology. His PhD research in Heritage Studies Brandenburg Technical University (BTU), Cottbus Germany has developed an integrated strategic management planning methodological framework for integrating development in Sub-Saharan African World Heritage Cultural Landscapes. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Heritage Management (2014) from, University of Kent, UK and a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and Earth Sciences (2006) from the University of Malawi.
