Prof. Dr. Marko Kiessel

Prof. Dr. Marko Kiessel is the chair of Industrial Design at ARUCAD Arkin University of Creative Art and Design in North Cyprus. He studied Classical Archaeology, Art History and (Ancient) History at the universities of Trier, Köln and Bologna (Erasmus). His main interests are the architecture of Classical Antiquity and of the 19th-20th centuries, although I also have been working intensively on provincial- Roman pottery for several years. His Ph.D. thesis, submitted to the university of Trier, analyses the architectural remains and objects from a Roman villa complex near Winningen in Germany. Related to the preparation of the international exhibition on Constantine I., held at Augusta Treverorum in 2007, I began to work on the architecture and objects of parts of the late Roman imperial palace of Trier in 2005. This project has been completed with a comprehensive publication in the "Trierer Zeitschrift".

Since fall 2006 he has been teaching history of architecture and art to students of architecture, interior- and graphic design in North Cyprus. Inevitably, his research focus turned to the archaeology of Cyprus and to the fascinating architectural development of the island in the 19th and 20th centuries.
